Determinants of zoogeographical boundaries differ between vertebrate groups

چکیده

Aim Worldwide distribution patterns of living animals are structured in multiple zoogeographical regions, characterized by faunas with homogeneous composition that separated sharp boundaries. These regions can differ depending on the considered animal group, probably because they have distinct characteristics such as dispersal, metabolism, or evolutionary history, and thus divergent responses to major biogeographical drivers, tectonic movements, abrupt climate transitions orographic barriers. Here, we tested if drivers boundaries different between vertebrate classes strongly traits history. Location Global. Time period Present. Major taxa studied Amphibians, birds mammals. Methods We focused terrestrial boundaries, considering potential drivers: spatial heterogeneity present-day climate, altitudinal variation, long-term movements past change (temperature). used spatially explicit regression models geographically weighted regressions select quantify factors explaining position classes. Results For mammals, climatic barriers jointly determined extant being most important. birds, played strongest role, while effect was weak. amphibians, mostly corresponded areas transitions. The amphibian occur shifts temperature precipitation regimes. Main conclusions Our analyses confirmed shaped global highlight features show heterogeneous across globe. Eco-physiological constraints likely increase importance dispersal limitations magnify relevance physical (mountain chains instability). Integrating among-taxa into provides a more complete view how processes determine biodiversity variation

Relations between Various Boundaries of Relatively hyperbolic Groups

Suppose a group G is relatively hyperbolic with respect to a collection P of its subgroups and also acts properly, cocompactly on a CAT (0) (or δ–hyperbolic) space X. The relatively hyperbolic structure provides a relative boundary ∂(G,P). The CAT (0) structure provides a different boundary at infinity ∂X. In this article, we examine the connection between these two spaces at infinity. In parti...

Boundaries of systolic groups

For all systolic groups we construct boundaries which are EZ–structures. This implies the Novikov conjecture for torsion–free systolic groups. The boundary is constructed via a system of distinguished geodesics in a systolic complex, which we prove to have coarsely similar properties to geodesics in CAT (0) spaces. Boundaries , Weyl Groups , and Superrigidity

This note describes a unified approach to several superrigidity results, old and new, concerning representations of lattices into simple algebraic groups over local fields. For an arbitrary group Γ and a boundary action Γ y B we associate certain generalized Weyl group WΓ,B and show that any representation with a Zariski dense unbounded image in a simple algebraic group, ρ : Γ → H, defines a sp...

Determinants of richness patterns differ between rare and common species: implications for Gesneriaceae conservation in China

Aim Whether richness patterns and determinants are consistent between common and rare species remains controversial, and the answer is fundamental for the conservation of species in vulnerable habitats. Although effects of climate and geological history on species richness have been widely explored, their relative contribution among common and rare species is poorly understood. Here, using a va...
